Bio

Based in New York City, I am currently an independent systems integration consultant on the Microsoft platform formerly a Senior Consultant in Neudesic’s Connected Systems Practice ( Microsoft Gold Partner ). I am an MCSD Certified and BizTalk Certified engineer with 10 years of experience specializing in architecture, design and development of enterprise-class integration solutions leveraging BizTalk 2009, Microsoft Service Bus, Windows Communication Foundation 4.0 (WCF), Windows Workflow Foundation (WF), Microsoft Enterprise Service Bus Guidance 1.0, and the Microsoft Developer Platform (.NET 2.0, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0) ASP.NET 3.5, C# 3.5. I have plenty of experience with SQL Server 7.0, 2000, 2005, and some 2008.

Since attending PDC2008, I have been transitioning my career to follow Microsoft’s vision of Software + Services. That includes studying and piloting Windows Azure and associated .NET services including Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS2.0) , Azure Access Control Service (ACS), Microsoft Identity Foundation (WIF), Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Service Bus, and Microsoft on Premise AppFabric ( formerly codename Dublin ).

Since PDC2008 I ran the Azure Cloud User group on behalf of Neudesic in New York City, helped pilot various features of Azure, participated in Microsoft led/sponsored 6 week training in March 2009, moved various small applications to Azure and am currently working on moving Microsoft’s DinnerNow.Net reference application to Azure, Azure Services, Dublin and the .NET 4.0 platform.
In November I attended PDC2009 and a workshop on the .NET ServiceBus.

My 10 years in software development, 7 integrating systems and 5 years experience with WCF and Biztalk are great foundations for this new architectural vision based on loosely coupled compute resources connected into a distributed system across cloud and on-premise.

Accessing Azure Development Fabric Hosted WCF endpoint from remote clients

So lets say you want to test early development builds in a continuously integrated system.

You want to take all your developers code and execute it on a seperate box and be able to test client access to your system remotely.

Yeah you could put it up in staging on Azure but maybe you dont want to do that yet. Maybe you just want some testers bangin away at it from some remote client.

Well right now thats kinda hard since the development fabric carries a restriction to… Continue

Saas vs. Software + Services

Saas vs. S+S

Saas is an architectural paradigm where a solution architecture can benefit from the economies of scale of the data and behavior of that architecture being built and hosted in the cloud by a third party in a multitenant fashion.

Software + Services is an architectural paradigm where a solution architecture can achieve some of the same economies of scale as Saas while simultaneously benefiting from the synergies and efficiencies of the data and behavior of… Continue

Why SOA is dead, Why Application Platforms = Business Strategy, and, Business Oriented Architecture.

I recently heard a presentation from David Chappell talking about how SOA is failing in many organizations.

Below is not a summary of what he talked about but my own new thoughts on a subject I am still learning much about while listening to his presentation.....

I have to give it to David Chappell. He has a way of bringing together concepts in a very simple and engaging way.

At a recent architecture conference

fault domains and upgrade domains.

If you deploy 10 instances of a web role. e.g. your website on 10 servers

for scale and availability purposes.

You wouldnt want to put all ten on one rack just in case that rack gets hosed.

You'd want to follow some best practice and maybe host them across two racks.

5 on one rack in location X and 5 on another rack in location Y.

If one server goes down on the rack in location Y you are good, theres 4 others still… Continue

Azure Architecture 101: Putting it all together

Box in white around everything is the service and everything outside of it is the public internet.

LB is a load balancer which takes input off the public internet and feeds it to the webrole

‘N’ = as may copies of the webrole you want all distributed behind the load balancer.

This is the only way that input is coming into the system.

Recap of December New York City meeting of the Azure Cloud Computing User Group

The first New York City meeting of the Azure Cloud Computing User Group met Tuesday night in downtown Manhattan.

62 people were allowed to register, about 25 showed up.

Chris Rolon, Architectural Consultant from Neudesic, marveled the crowd with his command of the material. There were a lot of questions and white-boarding.

I’ve watched all the PDC videos and I still came away with a improved understanding of Azure.

Chris began with an… Continue
